“Il fait pleut” is incorrect (badly so).

Most common form is “Il pleut”

In Belgium and northern France “Il drache” (for an heavy rain)

No, “raining cats (and dogs)” doesn’t translate literally.

It translates into “Il pleut des cordes” (literally “it’s raining ropes”) or the above mentionned “il drache”

In Québec we have other alternatives as well. However these are not “Proper French”, but joual.

Il mouille a seau (equivalent to it’s raining buckets)
Il pleut a boire debout (It’s raining so heavily that you are drinking the rain)

It’s raining men ( Il pleut des hommes )

    Il pleut

    Il mouille ( Québec )

Il pleut à verse (or), il pleut à seaux,(or) il pleut à torrents,(or) il pleut des cordes, (or), il pleut abondamment. all of this means Big big rain. 🙂

And the one that i find vulgar it’s: il pleut comme vache qui pisse
Traduction– It’s raining like cow piss. 😀
